If you are holding your lectures synchronously, using MS Teams, you may need to share your screen with your students on occasion. You can use both your desktop or mobile device to share your screen.
Note: The interface is slightly different depending on where you are accessing Teams. This tutorial will walk through how to share your screen using the desktop app as well as Google Chrome. Other internet browsers may have a different interface.

Sharing Screen using MS Teams Desktop App
- Start a Teams Meeting.
- Note: If you need help with this step, refer to our “Start a Meeting with Students in Microsoft Teams” tutorial.
- Click the Share Icon in the top right of the screen.
- Click the toggle next to Include Sound if you want the other member in the meeting to hear any audio from your screen, such as a video.
- Choose the Presenter Mode.
- Note: This will change how the layout of the presenter and the screen.
- Click the picture under Screen to share your entire screen.
- Note: If you are using a monitor, you will need to choose which screen you would like to share.
- If you select this option, your entire screen, including all windows and notifications that appear, will be shared.
- Click the picture under Window to only share one window.
- Select the Window you would like to share.
- A red box will appear around the screen or window you are sharing.
- Hover your cursor at the top of the screen you are sharing to show the controls.
- Give Control allows you to select a member of the teams call to give control of the screen you are sharing.
- Share Sound allows you to share any audio coming from the screen or window you are sharing.
- Optimize is increases the frame rate of your screen and can be helpful when sharing videos.
- Layout allows you to change the presenter mode.
- Annotate allows you and member to annotate the screen during the meeting.
- Click Stop Sharing at the right of the meeting or the controls bar to stop sharing your screen.
Sharing Screen using MS Teams on Google Chrome
Note: If you are using a different internet browser, the interface for sharing your screen may look different.
- Go to MSU Denver’s Faculty and Staff Hub.
- Click Quick Links on the top right of the page.
- Click Office 365 (Email and more).
- Click the App Launcher (3 by 3 grid of dots) in the top left corner of the screen.
- Click the Teams App for the pop-up menu.
- Start a Teams Meeting.
- Click the Share Icon (Rectangle with an arrow facing up).
- Click Screen, window, or tab at the top of the Share Content panel that appears.
- Select which Sharing Option you would like to use from the 3 tabs at the top of the pop-up window.
- Tab: This will only share one tab within a window.
- Click the toggle next to Share Tab Audio to share your screen’s audio.
- Note: Audio can only be shared when sharing a tab when using the browser version.
- Click the toggle next to Share Tab Audio to share your screen’s audio.
- Window: This will share an entire window, allowing you to switch between tabs.
- Entire Screen: This will share your entire screen.
- Note: If you share your entire screen, anything you see, the other members of the call will also be able to see, including all windows and notifications that might appear.
- Tab: This will only share one tab within a window.
- Select which tab, window, or screen to share.
- Click Share at the bottom right of the window.
- Click Stop Sharing at the top right of the Teams meeting to stop sharing your screen.
