Assignment groups allow you to organize all assignments categorically. This allows for both easier navigation to your assignments and lets you weight assignment groups differently for final grading.

Directions
View and Edit Assignment Groups
- Log in to your Canvas Account.
- Select the Course you’d like to work in.
- Click Assignments on the course navigation menu to the left.
- Click +Group on the top of the screen to add a new Assignment Group.
- Enter a Group Name in the text field.
- Click Save.
- Click +Assignment to add an assignment.
- Alternatively, Click the + button on the right hand side of the assignment group title to add an assignment to that specific assignment group.
- Note: Any assignments created through the Assignments page will have to be manually added to a module. See below for steps on assigning an Assignment Group when creating an assignment through Modules.
- Click the 8 dot arrow to the left of the group or assignment name to drag-and-drop an assignment or assignment group to a new location.
- Alternatively, Click the three dots to the right of the Assignment Name, and select Move to. Select the Assignment Group and Place, then click Move.
- Click the More Options (three dots icon) at the top right of the Assignments page, and select Assignments Group Weight to edit the Assignment Groups Weight.

Assign or Create Assignment Groups through Modules
- Go to MSU Denver’s Faculty and Staff Hub.
- Click Quick Links on the top right of the page.
- Click Canvas from the menu options that appear.
- Log in to your Canvas Account.
- Select the Course you’d like to work in.
- Click Modules on the course navigation menu to the left.
- Scroll to the Module you’d like to add an assignment to.
- Click the + Button next to the name of the Module.
- Select Assignment from the drop-down menu.
- Note: You can follow the same steps below to assign or create assignment groups through Discussions and Quizzes.
- Click [Create Assignment].
- Type a Title for your assignment in the Assignment Name box.
- Click Add Item.
- Click the Name of the assignment you created in the module.
- Click Edit.
- Type Instructions and Additional Information in the second, larger box.
- Note: You can also add links, images, videos, and other resources in this section. To learn more, refer to the “Use the Rich Content Editor” tutorial.
- Click the drop-down menu labeled Assignment Group.
- Select an Assignment Group from the dropdown menu.
- Note: Assignment groups that have already been created will appear in this dropdown menu.
- To create a new Assignment Group:
- Click [Create Group].
- Enter a Title for your group in the box labeled Name.
- Click Add Group.
- Finish filling out any additional settings.
- Click Save at the bottom right of the page.
