Sometimes, when you record a video, you want to make adjustments. Maybe you want to cut out a few seconds of silence or add a text overlay to a section of the video. YuJa has basic editing capabilities that enable you to make some changes to your video. The capabilities are limited, but they may be enough to avoid having to re-record or enable you to improve or enhance your video.

Open YuJa Video Editor
- Go to msudenver.yuja.com in your web browser.
- Click Sign In at the top right of the screen.
- Log in using your MSU Denver Credentials.
- Alternatively, click YuJa from the left-hand navigation menu in your Canvas course.
- Click My Media from the left-side menu.
- Locate the video you wish to edit.
- Hover over the video.
- ClickEdit from the options that appear.
- The YuJa Video Editor will open in a new tab.
- Click Advanced at the top right of the YuJa Video Editor screen.

Add Chapters to YuJa Videos
YuJa chapters allow viewers to easily navigate to different sections in the video.
- Click the Navigation icon on the left-side menu.
- Drag the purple playhead bar on the Video Editor timeline to the beginning of the video section you want to add a chapter to.
- Click + Add Chapter on the left-side panel.
- Enter a Chapter title in the text box.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for all chapters you want to add.
Cut Out a Section of the Video
If there is a section of the video you no longer want included, you can cut it out from the YuJa Editor.
- Drag the purple playhead bar on the left of the Video Editor timeline to the starting point of the section you wish to remove from the video.
- Click on the Split Icon.
- Drag the purple playhead bar on the Video Editor timeline to the end of the section you wish to remove from the video.
- Click the video section you just created.
- Click the trashcan icon to the right of the section to delete the entire section.
- Alternatively, click and drag the black bar to the right or left of the section to trim a portion of it.
Add a PDF, Slide, Word Doc, Excel File, or Image into your Video
You may add a file/image to override the current video stream segment. This can be useful if there was a slide you changed or an image you need to add later.
- Drag the purple playhead bar on the left of the Video Editor timeline to the point in the video that you wish to insert the file.
- Click on the Slides icon on the left-side menu.
- Click Upload Slides.
- Select the File you wish to insert into the video.
- Click Open.
- Enter the Time Range that you wish the slide to override.
- Note: The Start Time will be automatically set to where the playhead is on the Video Editor timeline editor.
- Click Apply Slide.
- Note: If you want to delete the file after you’ve inserted it, hover over the image under the Timeline on the Slides panel on the left, and click the trashcan icon.
Insert an MP4 Video into Your YuJa Video
You can use the YuJa Video Editor to insert a video segment into the beginning, middle, or end of your YuJa Video.
- Drag the purple playhead bar on the left of the Video Editor timeline to the point in the video that you wish to insert the file.
- Click on the Video icon on the left-side menu.
- Click the YuJa Video you want to add under Library.
- Alternatively, click Upload Media at the top of the Video Panel if the video is not already uploaded to YuJa.
- Click the Insertion type drop-down menu at the bottom of the pop-up window.
- Optionally, also select a target stream other than Video 1 from the drop-down menu if you would like the new video to play side-by-side with the current video.
- Select how you wish the video to be inserted.
- Current Time – Override: Will replace the existing video starting where the playhead is located in the Video Editor timeline for the duration of the new video.
- Current Time – Insert: Will add the new video where the playhead is located.
- At Beginning: Will add the new video to the beginning of the current video.
- At End: Will add the new video to the end of the current video.
- Click Apply.
Insert an Overlay onto Your Video.
You can add text, a watermark, or a video blur over your video.
- Click on the Overlays icon from the left-hand menu.
- Drag the purple playhead bar on the left of the Video Editor timeline to the point in the video that you wish to insert the Overlay.
- Select which overlay effect you wish to add to your video from the tabs at the top of the left-side panel.
- Text: Add text or pick a preset to overlay it on your video.
- Watermark: Upload a logo or brand mark to overlay it on your video.
- Blur: Add blur regions to hide faces, text, or sensitive areas.
Add Text Overlay to Your Video
Text overlay allows you to insert text over a section of the video stream.
- Select Text from the left tab at the top of the overlays panel.
- Select a preset for how you wish your text to appear.
- Alternatively, select Add Text to size the text yourself.
- Type the Text that you want as an overlay into the text box.
- Optionally, enter a new font size in the number field under the large text box.
- Enter the Time Range you wish the text to appear for.
- Note: The Start time will be automatically set to where the playhead is on the Video Editor timeline editor.
- Click and drag the Text on the video preview to the location you want the text to appear on the screen.
- Click All Text at the top left corner to return to the Overlays panel.
- Note: To delete a text overlay, hover over the text under Timeline in the Overlays panel on the left, and click the red trashcan icon.
Insert a Watermark
Watermarks allow you to insert a small image, such as a logo, over your video.
- Select Watermark from the middle tab at the top of the Overlays panel.
- Click Upload your logo or brand mark.
- Select the Image you wish to insert as a watermark or overlay into the video.
- Note: Image files must be 150 x 150 or smaller to work as a watermark.
- Click Open.
- Enter the Time Range you wish the watermark to appear for.
- Note: The Start Time will be automatically set to where the playhead is on the Video Editor timeline editor.
- Click Apply Watermark.
- Click and drag the Image to where you want it to appear on the screen as a watermark/overlay.
- Note: You cannot make the image smaller in YuJa. You will need to resize the image to the exact size you need before uploading it as a watermark.
- Note: To delete the watermark, click the x in the top right corner of the image on the video player.
Insert a Blur or Blackout Region to Your Video
You can blur sections of your video as well as blackout sections or the entire video stream if needed.
- Select Blur from the right tab at the top of the overlays panel.
- Click Add Blur Region.
- Click and drag the corners of the box on the video preview to adjust the size of the blur.
- Click and drag the box on the video preview to move where the blur appears on the screen.
- Alternatively, check the box next to Blackout entire video to blackout the video segment rather than add a blur.
- Enter the Time Range you wish the watermark to appear for.
- Note: The Start Time will be automatically set to where the playhead is on the Video Editor timeline editor.
- Note: To delete a blur or blackout, hover over the Blur region in the Overlays panel, and click the trashcan icon.
Insert Virtual Background to Your Video.
You can add a virtual background to any webcam video. These work similarly to virtual backgrounds in Teams meetings.
- Click on the Background icon on the left-hand menu.
- Click Upload Background.
- Select the Image you wish to make your virtual background.
- Click Open.
- Click the arrows at the bottom of the Background panel to select the stream to add your virtual background to.
- Note: An image of the video steam appears above the video. For virtual background, select the stream that has your webcam video on it.
- Click Apply to Selected Stream at the bottom of the left side panel.
- Note: The video may take several minutes, depending on the length of the recording, to process the preview of the virtual background.
- Note: To delete the background, hover over the background image under Applied Backgrounds, and click the trashcan icon.
Adjust Volume Control
If you notice certain sections of your video are too loud or too quiet, you can change the volume for sections of your video.
- Click Audio from the left-hand menu.
- Drag the purple playhead bar to the start of the section you want to adjust the volume for.
- Click + Add to the right of Adjust a Section in the panel on the left.
- Optionally, adjust the Start time.
- Enter the Duration (in seconds) that you want to adjust the volume for.
- Slide the decibel bar to adjust how much quieter or louder you wish to make the audio.
- Note: Sliding to the left will make the audio quieter, while sliding to the right will make the audio louder.
- ClickApply to Section.
- Note: To delete the adjusted audio, hover over the segment under Adjusted Sections, and click the red trashcan icon.
Save Video after Editing
- Click Save Project at the top right of the screen.
- Optionally, Edit the Title.
- Note: “_edited” will automatically be added to the end of the video title. If you plan on replacing the original video with the edited version, delete _edited.
- Add a Description, if desired.
- SelectUpdate transcript with caption edits.
- Note: Depending on the type of edits you made, you may have additional caption options under Caption timing may need updating after edits.
- For minor video edits, select Automatically adjust captions.
- For major video edits, such as inserting a new video segment, select Re-request auto-captions.
- Note: Depending on the type of edits you made, you may have additional caption options under Caption timing may need updating after edits.
- Select the desired location for the original video from the drop-down menu under Preserve Original.
- Click Save as New or Replace.
- Save as New: Creates a separate media item with a new embed code and links.
- Replace: Overwrite the original video with your edits. Any existing embeds, direct links, permissions, and analytics should now show the edited version.
- Note: If you select this option, edits to the underlying frame cannot be undone. It is recommended to preserve the original copy in case you need to revert any changes.
