Videos can be a great way to get complex ideas or concepts across to your students. This tutorial describes how to embed a video, such as a YouTube video, on a Canvas page. Using pages provides a wonderful opportunity to include some much-needed context around your video in the form of an introductory paragraph (gain the students’ attention, guide them in what to think about or what to get out of the video), notes from you, or even a link to a reading that supplements the video.
Directions
- Go to MSU Denver’s Faculty and Staff Hub.
- Click Canvas in the Teaching & Learning section.
- Log in to your Canvas Account.
- Select the Course you’d like to work in.
- Click Modules on the course navigation menu to the left.
- Locate a Page you would like to embed a video in.

- Click the Name of the Page.
- Click Edit in the top right-hand corner.
- Click Insert from the row of options above the textbox.
- Click Embed.
- Copy the Embed Code of your video.
- Note: To find the embed code of a YouTube video:
- Open the YouTubeVideo.
- Click Share (below the video).
- Click Embed.
- Click Copy in the bottom right-hand corner.
- Other video platforms may have different ways to copy an embed code.
- Note: To find the embed code of a YouTube video:
- Paste the Code into the Embed Code box in Canvas.
- Click Submit in the bottom right-hand corner.
- You can add text around the video to provide context or instructions for your students.
- Click Save in the bottom right-hand corner.
