Organize Courses on the Canvas Dashboard

The Dashboard feature in Canvas enables you to view a selection of your courses in one place. Each course card provides a link to the course’s homepage and provides a visual aid to help you view and organize your courses. You have several different ways to control the appearance of your Dashboard, including selecting the courses displayed, changing their arrangement, and giving courses nicknames.

Favorite a Course

If there’s a course that you would like to appear on the Dashboard, you can favorite it. Please note that if you have favorited any courses, only those will appear on the Dashboard. If no courses are favorited, Canvas will instead generate a list of courses you access frequently.

1. Click Courses in the left-hand global navigation menu.
2. Click All Courses at the top of the panel.
3. Locate the Course that you’d like to favorite.
4. Click the Star Outline icon to the left of the course name to favorite the course.
5. Click the Yellow Star icon to unfavorite a course, removing it from the Dashboard.

Manage Course Cards

1. Click and drag any Course Card to move it to a new location.
2. Click on the More Options (3-Dots) icon in the top left-hand corner of any card.
3. Enter a Nickname that will change the name of the course on your Dashboard.
   • Please note that this will not change the name of the course for anyone else.
4. Click on any of the Colored Squares to change the color of the card.
5. Click on the Move tab to find options to move a card up or down without dragging.
   • You can also unfavorite a course from this menu.
